mini garden kit Want an easy-to-use hydroponic system that won't cost you the earth?

What's In the Kit?

Our Mini Garden Kit is a small grow box which  consists of :

  • 1 litre of complete plant nutrient - R and D Total Growth (1 part)

  • Growing media - Perlite/Vermiculite/Expanded Earth mix or Cocopeat. All these medias are natural products.

  • Growing tray - UV stabilised plastic box (66 cm x 33 cm x 16 cm). We have been using these trays for 16 years.

  • Instructions for use.

Instructions for Use

The mini garden kit is perfect for the beginner or someone wondering whether or not they can successfully grow anything using hydroponics.

To use the kit is very simple. First, put the medium in the growing tray provided. Then plant seeds or seedlings into the medium and water using the nutrient solution provided, diluted in water at a rate appropriate for the particular type of plant/s you are growing (if you are unsure about dilution rates ask us for a handout of recommended nutrient strengths - this will tell you). Hydroponics is just like your garden - to check if your plants need watering just feel the medium. If it's dry, then your plants will need a drink.

Mini Garden Kit (with plastic box)

As the two medias available with this system have a high degree of water retention, watering the mini garden kit has to only happen generally once a week in summer and once a fortnight in winter, but this may vary slightly with larger or more plants in the grow tray. Overwatering by pouring too much solution into the tray is never a problem because it has holes in the side to allow excess solution to run out.

This method is known as "Total Use", meaning that all of the nutrient solution provided to the plants is used (except the excess that flows out of the holes in the tray).

This is about as easy and simple as hydroponics gets. From here you may wish to upgrade to a system using pumps and expand. This type of growing method is very easy to expand on. We have found the mini garden kit to be very popular with people new to hydroponics and also people with experience who just prefer the cheaper hand watering method.
