Aeroponic Systems

Aeroponic SystemsAeroponics is essentially hydroponics but instead of growing in a medium, the roots are grown suspended in air. Nutrient is fed to the plant roots via small fine spray sprinklers ensuring maximum aeration of the nutrient for minimal cost to the grower.

Suspending roots in the air is achieved by creating an enclosed growing (space?) i.e. inside box. The potted plants are suspended from the lid of the box, and are watered & fed by a sprinkler, also inside the box, which is operated by a high pressure pump.
The nutrient then drains out of the growing box into a reservoir which is then recirculated to the plants. More than one “growing box” can be fed from this reservoir.

The only media you should use for aeroponics is expanded clay, just to fill the pots and provide some stability for the plants. Any medium that holds water may cause the stem of your plant to rot as there would be constant moisture retained there by the medium. When your plants are small, the sprinklers should be 15 minutes on, 15 minutes off. Depending on the type of plant and its size, this can later change to constantly on.

What's in an Aeroponics Kit

Aeroponic SystemsAs we build the kits here in the shop, you can customise your aeroponics kit to your own tastes or growing style. A kit will comprise of:

  • 50 Litre Reservoir
  • Pump

Generally, as you can sucessfully fit three of these units under a 400 watt HID light, we build a three unit system complete with stand that is the most popular seller.
